VSAGX Investment Objective and Strategy

Small Cap Aggressive Growth Fund describes its objective and strategy as follows, from its latest prospectus filed with the SEC by VALIC Co I.

Investment objective

The Fund seeks capital growth.

Principal investment strategy

The Fund normally invests at least 80% of its net assets in small-cap companies. The Fund considers a company to be a small-cap company if its market capitalization, at the time of purchase, is equal to or less than the market capitalization of the largest company in the Russell 2000 Index during the most recent 12-month period. As of May 11, 2018, the market capitalization range of the companies in the Russell 2000 Index was approximately $159.2 million to $5 billion. Some companies may outgrow the definition of a small company after the Fund has purchased their securities. These companies continue to be considered small for purposes of the Funds minimum 80% allocation to small company equities. The Fund typically invests most of its assets in securities of U.S. companies but may also invest a portion of its assets in foreign securities (up to 10% of net assets).

The Subadviser may engage in active and frequent trading of portfolio securities to achieve the Funds investment objective. In order to generate additional income, the Fund may lend portfolio securities to broker-dealers and other financial institutions provided that the value of the loaned securities does not exceed 30% of the Funds total assets. These loans earn income for the Fund and are collateralized by cash, securities issued or guaranteed by the U.S. Government or its agencies or instrumentalities, and such other securities as the Fund and the securities lending agent may agree upon. Investors will be given at least 60 days written notice in advance of any change to the Funds 80% investment policy set forth above.
