C000266306 Investment Objective and Strategy
AVIP Intech U.S. Low Volatility Portfolio describes its objective and strategy as follows, from its latest prospectus filed with the SEC by Ohio National Fund INC.
Investment objective
Seeks capital appreciation.
Principal investment strategy
The Portfolio invests, under normal circumstances, at least 80% of its net assets (plus any borrowings for investment purposes, if any) in U.S. common stocks of companies included in the S&P 500 Index. The Portfolio generally invests in the common stocks of companies included in the S&P 500 Index, although it may maintain a small allocation to cash or cash equivalents for liquidity purposes. The S&P 500 Index is an unmanaged index of 500 stocks that is generally representative of the performance of large-capitalization companies in the United States. Under normal market conditions, the Portfolio seeks to achieve returns similar to those of the S&P 500 Index (the Portfolios benchmark index) over the long term, while also seeking to exhibit lower absolute volatility than the S&P 500 Index, although there can be no assurance that either objective will be achieved.
In this context, absolute volatility refers to the variability of returns. The Portfolio is a diversified fund. The Portfolios emphasis on lower absolute volatility may result in periods of underperformance relative to the S&P 500 Index, particularly during sustained market advances. Conversely, the Portfolio may provide some downside mitigation during declining markets, although it may also participate in market losses. Intech Investment Managements investment approach is based on the mathematical foundation of Stochastic Portfolio Theory, which focuses on capturing potential benefits from volatility and rebalancing effects. The Portfolio integrates volatility-based and fundamental-based alpha sources into its investment process in an effort to capture rebalancing benefits and identify relative differences in stock valuations.
The systematic process estimates volatility across multiple dimensions to construct portfolios that seek to improve the risk-return profile relative to the benchmark while tilting toward companies with improving business fundamentals. The investment process optimizes portfolio target weights. The optimization seeks to achieve lower absolute volatility than the benchmark while incorporating alpha signals to generate returns similar to the S&P 500 Index over the long term. The Portfolio is periodically rebalanced and re-optimized in an effort to capture potential rebalancing premium while managing trading costs. These rebalancing techniques may result in a higher portfolio turnover rate compared to a buy and hold strategy.
