C000202636 Investment Objective and Strategy

JNL/American Funds Capital Income Builder Fund describes its objective and strategy as follows, from its latest prospectus filed with the SEC by JNL Series Trust.

Investment objective

The Fund (Feeder Fund) seeks both to provide a level of current income that exceeds the average yield on U.S. stocks generally and to provide a growing stream of income over the years by investing through exclusive investment in the Class 1 shares of the American Funds Insurance Series - Capital Income Builder Fund (Master Fund),

Principal investment strategy

The Fund operates as a feeder fund and seeks to achieve its goal by investing all of its assets in Class 1 shares of the Master Fund. The Master Fund normally will invest at least 90% of its assets in income-producing securities (with at least 50% of its assets in common stocks and other equity securities). The Master Fund invests primarily in a broad range of income-producing securities, including common stocks and bonds. In seeking to provide a level of current income that exceeds the average yield on U.S. stocks, the Master Fund generally looks to the average yield on stocks of companies listed on the S&P 500 Index. The Master Fund may also invest significantly in common stocks, bonds and other securities outside the United States. The Master Fund uses a system of multiple portfolio managers in managing the funds assets.

Under this approach, the Master Funds portfolio is divided into segments managed by individual managers. The Master Fund relies on the professional judgment of its investment adviser to make decisions about the Master Funds portfolio investments. The basic investment philosophy of the Master Funds investment adviser is to seek to invest in attractively valued securities that, in its opinion, represent good, long-term investment opportunities. Securities may be sold when the Master Funds investment adviser believes that they no longer represent relatively attractive investment opportunities.
